I always thought I would buy my wedding dress at a small boutique, which is where I spent the first six months looking after I got engaged. But though I came close a few times, nothing I found felt quite right. I sought something traditional and classic, yet chic and alluring. When I hadn't had any luck by Christmas, and my mother wanted to join me for a dress shopping trip, I decided it might be worth giving Kleinfeld (of "Say Yes to the Dress" fame) a shot. I went in determined not to buy anything, but from the moment my saleswoman Camille brought this gown in, I knew I was finished. The dress is a light ivory lace ball gown. It had every detail I sought: perfect light sleeves for fall and a conservative Catholic church; a V-neck to accentuate square shoulders and a narrow waist, a la Kate Middleton's wedding dress; a keyhole back, with buttons all the way down to the hem; a cathedral-length train; chantilly lace with alencon detailing to give it more texture and a slightly less stuffy feel; an understated belt at the natural waist that made me feel like Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn; and an A-line ball-gown shape (when else are you going to wear something full and floor-length?). I wore this for photos in Central Park on a beautiful fall day, down the aisle, and dancing all night at the Central Park Boathouse until I made my way back to the Plaza hotel that evening. It gave me a magical night, and I'm sure it will do the same for you! Many, many more photos available upon request.
